What is the Global Talent Visa?
The UK Global Talent visa is a route designed to attract exceptional and promising individuals in fields such as technology, science, engineering, arts and culture and academia.
The Global Talent Visa allows individuals to live and work in the UK without a sponsor, with the freedom to change jobs, start a business, or engage in freelance work. Successful applicants are endorsed by a designated endorsing body, based on their achievements or potential.
This visa replaced the previous Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) Visa.
Who is Eligible for a Global Talent Visa?
There are two routes under the Global Talent Visa:
Global Talent – for recognised leaders in their field.
You must have a proven track record of exceptional achievement in your sector. This route offers the fastest path to permanent residency (after 3 years).
Global Promise – for emerging leaders showing exceptional promise.
Ideal for early-career professionals with strong potential to become future leaders. This route leads to permanent residency after 5 years.
Eligible Fields & Endorsing bodies for the Global Talent Visa
To apply, you need an endorsement from one of the UK Government’s official endorsing bodies. Each has specific criteria depending on the sector:
Tech Nation

- Roles include: software engineers, AI researchers, product managers, cyber security experts
Arts Council England
- For professionals in arts, culture, film, fashion, architecture, or design
- Must show significant international awards or exceptional work in the field

The Royal Society, The Royal Academy of Engineering & The British Academy

How to Apply
The application process consists of two main stages:
Stage 1: Endorsement application to the relevant endorsing body. This is where you provide your portfolio of evidence relating to your eligibility for endorsement. The endorsing body will then decide whether they will endorse the application or not.
Stage 2: Visa application through the UK Home Office. Once you have obtained your endorsement letter, you can then apply for your Global Talent visa. If you are in the UK, your visa application must be submitted before your current visa expires.
